Meet Jodie: The Creative Force Behind Purple Penguin Party
Hello, I’m Jodie, founder of Purple Penguin Party, and I’m thrilled to share a bit about my journey as a children’s entertainer and party creator! As a mum of two, I understand how important it is to create unforgettable experiences for kids—and that’s exactly why I love what I do. Here’s how it all started and why I wouldn’t trade this wild, wonderful job for anything else.
How It All Began
Believe it or not, I used to work in an office. One day, I spotted an ad for a princess entertainer position and couldn’t resist applying. My first application was a basic, “professional” CV, and I didn’t hear back. So I tried again, but this time, I wrote from the heart, explaining why I’d be perfect for the role—and it worked! I was hired, and I never looked back. Years later, after my husband was made redundant, I took a leap and started Purple Penguin Party. Going full-time as an entertainer has been life-changing, letting me pour all my creativity and energy into a career I truly love.
My Style: Kooky, Creative, and Always Fun
As someone with ADHD (which, like many, went undiagnosed for years), I realised why traditional office life was so hard for me. Entertainment lets me work in a dynamic, creative space that I thrive in. Today, I bring that high energy, unique personality, and a love for all things quirky to every party I create.
Yes, I do traditional princess parties, and I absolutely love bringing magic and sparkle to these events. But I also bring my own cheeky twist, ensuring the adults enjoy the party as much as the kids. For me, it’s all about bringing characters to life in a way that’s captivating for children, whether it’s a quick 20-minute appearance or a full two-hour extravaganza.
Why I’m “The Weirdo in the Industry”
One of my favourite parts of this business is getting to bring unusual, unexpected characters to life. Over the years, I’ve had requests that only true lovers of the kooky and wonderful would appreciate. I’ll never forget a summer party where I was asked to come as Beetlejuice—yes, in July! The same client had booked a princess with another company the year before, then came to me for Beetlejuice the following year. I couldn’t have been more thrilled to be asked for this character, the client knew exactly who to approach to embrace the weird!
Then there are characters like Meg Mucklebones, my beloved pirate alter-ego. I love taking Meg to “walk-around” events, like Mumbles Pier, where I get to improvise with the crowd, play games, and even hand out balloon swords while singing pirate shanties. Fast balloon modelling? You bet—that’s a skill I’ve got down!
Adapting Each Party to the Crowd
One of my core values is making sure everyone at the party—kids and adults alike—has a fantastic time. Each crowd is different, and I adapt every performance to fit the atmosphere and keep the fun going for everyone. My cheeky, playful style is just as entertaining for parents, which is why many of them look forward to my parties as much as their children do!
